Backpacks
Each August, AHUMC hosts a National Night Out event for the neighborhood surrounding the church.
We provide over two hundred backpacks filled with school supplies to neighborhood children in need. We offer food, games, and entertainment. And we are joined by Community service organizations and the San Jose Police Department.
Three times a month, often in concert with our three-church Joint Youth Ministry, we prepare, serve, and share a dinner meal with residents of the Casitas de Esperanza transitional housing program. Before dinner, we enjoy interacting with adults and their children in fun activities like craft making and games.

Lunches
Every other month we pack two hundred bag lunches filled with non-perishable food items. These are delivered to downtown San Jose for distribution by non-profit Front Door Communities to people in need.
Supporting our immediate neighborhood, a “food table” on Wednesdays encourages anyone walking through our urban campus to enjoy a beverage and take away some food. We began with a generous non-perishable food donation from a local YMCA and now AHUMC is supporting this ministry. We have enjoyed getting to know a number of visitors who are coming back each week.

Clean-Up
We join regularly with the community to clean-up trash around our Hoffman/Via Monte neighborhood.
At Almaden Hills UMC, we use the term “Outreach” for or work in our neighborhood and city; and “Mission” for projects around the nation and the world. But many efforts blend local and broader efforts, such as our annual Crop Hunger Walk – read more on the Mission page.
