Sunday morning services at AHUMC paused

A message from Pastor Mariellen:

After much consultation with our District Superintendent (my direct boss), other pastors, church members and church leaders, the decision has been made to put our church services on “pause” beginning Sunday, March 15.

This “pause-ing” is unprecedented. While we want our church home to remain as a place of worship and fellowship, we also want our church home to be a place of health and safety. This “pause” is not only for our health and safety but also for that of our greater community – as our not meeting together may help to slow or minimize the spread of the coronavirus.

During this time, I do not want to lose contact with you. Please continue to be in communication with me through mail, email and texts.

Also:

1) We will be enhancing our “sermons” online. Instead of hearing only a sermon, we will include a “call to worship,” prayer, scripture, and a sermon. You can listen to this Sunday’s message beginning this Sunday evening and anytime throughout the week.

2) Our Children’s Director, Lyndsey Ramos, will be communicating with our children throughout each week we are on “pause.”

3) Our Joint Youth Ministry Director and Assistant Director have sent out notices to the JYM concerning a) a change in the physical auction to an online auction, and b) enhanced ways of their gathering together. They will continue to evaluate their safety actions.

Our District Superintendent has sent out this Bible verse to the pastors. I want to share it to you as well. It is from Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

And I want to add to that, “The Lord our God is bigger than the coronavirus.” Let us continue to journey through this time with good information, healthy behaviors, faithful discernment, and hopeful words and actions for and with one another,

Pastor Mariellen

Session Two: To the Neighbor
Available now

Compassion helps us be brave. To be brave is letting God help us see and reach out to our neighbor. When we reach out to our neighbor, we experience the miracle of God’s power to restore and make our community whole. Through the gospel story of friends bringing their friend on a mat to Jesus, the children will witness how compassion often requires risk. Children will learn the ways compassion calls for focus - we keep our eyes on Jesus, even as others might misunderstand or judge our actions.

This week at Compassion Camp
Bible Story: Four Friends, Mark 2:1-12
Create & Play: Comic strip, Kindness hug, Shoebox scene
Movement (Yoga): I am brave
Compassion in Action: Letters of encouragement and thanks, Heart envelopes
